We are no average tree-planting organisation.
When you donate to The Inga Foundation, you not only sequester carbon with every tree that is planted, but also take away the major impacts of slash and burn, while supporting a family to put food on the table and lead happier, more prosperous lives.
In 12 years, we’ve achieved something extraordinary…
…for a fraction of the cost of any other international project.
The project has spent around £2.203 million up to the end of 2023 and we now have almost 500 families that we support through training and our tree nursery. Now we have the infrastructure in place, it costs around $4,000 dollars per family to completely turn their life around – and to put back thousands of hectares of soil and foliage.
We aren’t aware of a single project that has achieved as much in the field as we have with the funding available. Our overheads are kept as low as possible: money is not spent on offices, executive vehicles, or anything that we believe is non-essential.
Our thank you to major donors
Every major donor (£1000+) will hear about the impact of their donation:
-
- Quarterly updates and one full annual report
-
- Tree mapping available upon request; showing how many of our trees have been planted in each area.
-
- Communications with our Founder and Co-Director Michael Hands
-
- Being part of a permanent transformation that will last through the generations. We don’t know of a single family who has returned to slash and burn.
Independent Certification
In 2004, we had two external evaluations. The first was performed by Mark Sandiford as part of our contractual obligation for EU funding. Our second evaluation was completed by David Moissis, nominated by Brussels. All four Cambridge Projects were funded by the European Union STD.
In 2024, independent professional ornothologist Kelvin Bodden conducted several transects at our test farm in Honduras, along with two other independent experts. Astoundingly, they identified 154 species of bird on our regenerated farmland, compared with 4 on nearby degraded pastureland.
